to deepen and broaden professional competencies

Artificial Intelligence in Secondary School Education

The educational program "Artificial Intelligence in Teaching in Secondary Schools" is aimed at increasing professional competences in the field of ICT and the use of elements of artificial intelligence in the field of education.

The educational programme is guaranteed by the Department of Technical Studies of the VŠPJ. The programme was created on the basis of educational needs and requirements of representatives of secondary schools in the Vysočina region.

The implementation of the contractual course will be carried out on the basis of a prior written order addressed to the Centre for Lifelong Learning of the VŠPJ (hereinafter referred to as CCV).

• Who is education for?

This training is intended for secondary school teaching staff.

• Education Goal

The aim of the training is to introduce participants to the use of selected elements of artificial intelligence in the field of education. This course presents the possibilities of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in education in secondary schools or other educational institutions. Participants will learn the main concepts, the history of AI and ML, the tools available and their practical use in education. The course highlights the ways in which AI can support traditional teaching methods, from preparing materials for teaching to creating interactive learning games to correcting assignments. Attention is also paid to the ethical and legal aspects of using AI in education and the potential for misuse of AI by students.

• Education Scope

Explanation of key concepts - Introduction to artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative models, big language models and the difference between the acronyms AI, ML and AI.

A Brief History of AI/ML - An overview of the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning and their milestones.

Available Tools and How to Use Them - A detailed look at ChatGPT, Bing, Midjourney and more, including a comparison of capabilities between the unpaid and paid versions of ChatGPT.

Practical Demonstrations of ChatGPT - Preparing Materials for Teaching. Preparation of tests, make-up exercises, word problems and interactive games. Correcting assignments. Possibilities of misuse by students.

Generating Illustration Images - Using Bing Image Creator, Stable Diffusion and Midjourney to create visuals.

Mathematical Problems - WolframAlpha and its integration into ChatGPT for solving math problems.

Data Analysis- How to use the Code Interpreter and Advanced Data Analysis in ChatGPT to easily process data with no prior programming experience.

Legislation - Legal framework for the use of AI in education.

Further Resources - A list of materials and resources for further self-education and inspiration.

• Lecturing Team

Ing. Jan Mittner, Ph.D. (jan.mittner@vspj.cz), an academic at the Department of Technical Studies at the University of Applied Sciences with many years of experience in the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in economics and education.

Mgr. et Mgr. Filip Dechterenko, Ph.D. (filip.dechterenko@vspj.cz), an academic at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Applied Sciences with many years of experience in the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in sociology, psychology and education.

• Scope and Forms of Education

8 hours of intensive training in one business day.

• Term and Place of Training

The training programme will be implemented in the period March - December 2024 (as required by the ordering institution). The implementation of the training takes place on working days as standard at 8:00 - 16:00 hours.

• Education

The participant is required to attend 100% of the full-time classes. Successful graduates of the program will receive proof of the educational result in the form of a certificate of the VŠPJ.

• Education Program Price

• Logging in to the training program

Application to the programme will be made via electronic application (further details will be provided to the ordering institution after mutual agreement of the order). Maximum capacity of participants in the program is 20.

• Admission Policy

The conditions of admission of applicants to the educational programme are determined by the ordering institution.

• Implementation of Contract Education Program

The implementation of the educational programme will be carried out on the basis of a written order addressed to the Centre for Lifelong Learning of the VŠPJ. The order will contain the details - date, time, venue, number of participants, number of required repeats of the course, etc. (individually negotiated conditions)
