We are a small school and every student has the chance to travel abroad.

The study programme Health and Social Care will provide you with a practically oriented bachelor's degree in social work, on the basis of which you will gain competence and professional competences to perform the profession of social worker according to Act No.108/2006 Coll, and to exercise the non-medical health profession without professional supervision, health and social worker according to Act No. 96/2004 Coll,  The study of the field is conceived as a combination of basic knowledge in the fields of health care (nursing, geriatrics, paediatrics, surgery, psychiatry...) and detailed knowledge in the fields of social care (ethics, psychology, theory and methods of social work, social policy, sociology, law...) with an emphasis on practical teaching. You will practically verify the acquired theoretical knowledge in a continuous practice. During your studies you will complete a total of 20 weeks of professional practice. The internship is carried out in health care facilities, social service facilities or organizations that operate in the field of social work and provide residential, outpatient or field social services.

You will gain the knowledge and skills to:

  • implementing social prevention, including depistige
  • providing socio-legal counselling
  • carrying out a social investigation, analysing it and then creating an individual client plan and implementing the necessary interventions and assistance
  • performing social rehabilitation
  • integrating clients and getting their social environment to actively participate in solving adverse social situations
  • performing analytical, methodological and conceptual activities in the health and social field
  • working with the individual, with the group, with the community
  • comprehensive view of care for disadvantaged children, adults and the elderly

Applications should only be submitted electronically via the e-applicationThe admission fee is CZK 650,- and must be paid no later than the application deadline of the given round (if you do not enrol, the fee will not be refunded). Further payment instructions (account number, variable symbol) can be found in the electronic application. The fee must be paid again for each round of admissions.

Applications in the 2nd and 3rd supplementary rounds will only be allowed provided that the number of admitted candidates has not already been filled in the 1st basic round of admissions.

Conditions for admission to study are:

  • achievement of secondary education with a school-leaving examination (successful completion of the school-leaving examination at secondary school),
  • eligibility for studies demonstrated in the entrance examination (knowledge in the scope of secondary school):
    • PC test in professional subjects (basics of social sciences, psychology, philosophy, sociology, biology) and general study prerequisites (max. 50 points),
    • oral interview - test of cultural, political and social awareness, independent judgement and motivation to study (max. 50 points),
    • for demonstrably completed and written evidence of the applicant's activities in terms of previous experience, personal development or in the public interest (e.g. volunteering, work experience in social work or a related field, study abroad, state examination in a foreign language), a maximum of 20 points may be awarded, to be added to the result of the oral examination,
  • confirmation of medical fitness to study the Clinical Social Care programme.
  • Acceptance of applicants for study who are foreign nationals (except Slovak nationals) is also subject to proof of knowledge of the Czech language. This proficiency can be demonstrated by a Czech language school-leaving exam (successful completion of the Czech secondary school leaving exam) or by an oral interview at the entrance exam (understanding of the spoken word, ability to interact and talking about the motivation, expectations and immediate needs of the applicant).

The admission procedure for the academic year 2025/2026 again includes the possibility of EXEMPTING applicants in difficult social situations FROM THE FEE for the acts related to the admission procedure. No fee will be charged to an applicant who meets the following conditions:

  • he/she applies to study in a bachelor's or master's degree programme no later than 14 May 2025,
  • he/she is not a graduate of the same type of degree programme (written affidavit),
  • he/she proves that he/she is in a difficult social situation (written certificate issued at his/her request by the state social assistance body proving that the family income ascertained for the purposes of the child benefit for the third calendar quarter of 2023 did not exceed the product of the family's subsistence minimum and a coefficient of 1.5),
  • he/she requests that he/she be exempted from the fee no later than 9 April 2025.

Further information on the admission procedure:

  • The scope, depth and level of knowledge required in the test are based on the material covered in high school graduation exams (for an idea of how the tests are designed, see sample tests from previous entrance exams). The test consists of 50 questions. Candidates can score 50 points on the test (a correct answer is worth 1 point, a wrong answer and a don't know/won't answer are worth 0 points). A total time limit of 45 minutes has been set for the test.
  • The criterion for demonstrating eligibility to study is the achievement of a score in the admissions procedure that places the applicant in the order of the expected number of students to be admitted so that the total number of students enrolled in the programme is 110.
  • School-leaving certificate/certification of recognition and medical fitness certificate issued by a medical practitioner on the recommended form (available for download in the e-application form after payment of the admission fee) must be submitted in one of the following ways:
    • online (uploading via a personal folder in the e-application) - only authorized document conversion (provided by Czech POINT branches) - other electronic versions of the document, e.g. a simple scan, will not be accepted
    • by post to the study department (officially certified copy)
    • in person at the study department (certified copy)
  • School-leaving certificate/certification of recognition must be delivered by 9/9/2025 (in case of non-delivery by the deadline, the candidate will not be admitted to study)
  • certificate of medical fitness must be delivered according to the dates of the individual rounds of the admission procedure for the academic year 2025/2026 (in case of failure to deliver by the deadline, the applicant will not be admitted to the study) - to be downloaded in the e-application after payment of the fee for the actions related to the admission procedure.
  • Based on Decree No. 537/2006 Coll., § 9, paragraph 1, letter f), as amended, only students who have submitted confirmation of vaccination/exposure/protective substances against viral hepatitis B may enter the practical placement. The professional placement is part of the studies as early as the 1st semester.

    Admission exams are held in the school building at Tolstého 16, Jihlava, and you must bring your ID (ID card or passport).

The last date for regular enrolment for the 2025/2026 academic year is September 11, 2025.

Only those applicants who have fulfilled the admission requirements and have the document "Rector's Decision on Admission to Study" available in the e-application form may enrol. The easiest and fastest way to enrol for studies is online directly in the e-application form. However, you can also choose to enrol by correspondence or enrol in person at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava building (dates will be announced continuously). The admission exam for the Health and Social Care programme consists of a PC-based test in the social sciences, psychology, sociology, philosophy, biology and general study prerequisites.

The curriculum of the field of Health and Social Care is developed in accordance with the Minimum Standard for Social Work Education.

The study of the field of study is designed as a combination of basic knowledge in the fields of health care (nursing, geriatrics, paediatrics, surgery, psychiatry,...) and detailed knowledge in the fields of social care (ethics, psychology, social work methods, social policy, sociology, law,...) with an emphasis on practical teaching. The programme includes a professional internship of a total duration of 20 weeks.

Key Learning Outcomes

The graduate has the knowledge, skills and general competencies to be able to:

  • carry out social prevention, including depistige
  • carry out social surveys and their analysis
  • draw up a psychosocial intervention plan
  • implement social measures
  • ensure the social agenda
  • provide socio-legal counselling
  • provide socio-legal counselling in relation to the illness or its consequences
  • participate in the integration of clients and recruit their social environment to actively participate in the integration process
  • participate in the organisation of convalescent stays
  • within the scope of their professional competence, carry out activities in preparation for the discharge of patients, including the provision of follow-up care and services
  • in the event of the death of a client/patient, to carry out professional social counselling; for deceased patients who die alone, to arrange death-related matters
  • to carry out basic activities in the context of the Social Services Act (social therapy, telephone crisis assistance, skills training, assistance in exercising rights and interests, assistance in coping with normal self-care tasks, etc.)
  • keeping medical records and other documentation resulting from other legislation
  • provide information to the patient in accordance with his/her professional competence and, where appropriate, the doctor's instructions
  • carry out analytical, methodological and conceptual work in the health and social field
  • participate in practical teaching of students in selected fields of study, etc.
