The Midwifery programme provides you with a practically oriented bachelor's degree in midwifery. The study programme is designed under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications in the provision of services. It gives you, as a graduate, the essential prerequisites to practice the regulated profession in the European Union. The theoretical knowledge you have acquired will be practically verified through long-term practical placement. During your studies, you will complete a total of 46 weeks of nursing and professional practical placement. You can carry out your placement, for example, in antenatal clinics, gynaecological outpatient clinics, inpatient gynaecological and obstetric care facilities (standard nursing units, intensive care units, delivery rooms or operating theatres) and other selected workplaces.

Applications should only be submitted electronically via the e-application application. The admission fee is CZK 650,- and must be paid no later than the application deadline of the given round (if you do not enrol, the fee will not be refunded). Further payment instructions (account number, variable symbol) can be found in the electronic application. The fee must be paid again for each round of admissions.

What subjects will you study?

A list of the courses you will take during your studies can be found in the Curriculum tab below on this page. The study also includes a long-term practical placement (of 46 weeks).

Conditions for admission to study are:

  • achievement of secondary education with a school-leaving examination (successful completion of the school-leaving examination at a secondary school),
  • eligibility to study as demonstrated in the entrance examination (knowledge in the scope of secondary school):
    • PC test in professional subjects (human biology, psychology) and general study prerequisites (max. 50 points),
    • oral interview - verification of the applicant's knowledge of human biology and motivation (max. 50 points),
  • confirmation of medical eligibility to study midwifery (a form is available for download in the e-application form after payment of the fee for the admission procedure).
  • Acceptance of applicants for study who are foreign nationals (except for Slovak nationals) is also subject to proof of knowledge of the Czech language. This proficiency can be demonstrated by a Czech language school-leaving exam (successfully passed a school-leaving exam at a Czech secondary school) or demonstrated by an oral interview at the entrance exam at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava (understanding of the spoken word, ability to interact and identify the motivation, talking about expectations and immediate needs of the applicant).

The full text of the conditions of admission to the College of Polytechnics Jihlava for the academic year 2025/2026 can be found HERE.
For more information on the Czech language exam, including exam dates, please visit HERE.

The admission procedure for the academic year 2025/2026 again includes the possibility of EXEMPTING applicants in difficult social situations FROM THE FEE for the acts related to the admission procedure. No fee will be charged to an applicant who meets the following conditions:

o   he/she applies to study in a bachelor's or master's degree programme no later than 14 May 2025,

o   he/she is not a graduate of the same type of degree programme (written affidavit),

o   he/she proves that he/she is in a difficult social situation (written certificate issued at his/her request by the state social assistance body proving that the family income ascertained for the purposes of the child benefit for the third calendar quarter of 2024 did not exceed the product of the family's subsistence minimum and a coefficient of 1.5),

o   he/she requests that he/she be exempted from the fee no later than 9 April 2025.

An application for exemption from the fee is available HERE; a sample affidavit is available HERE.

Further information on the admission procedure:

  • For the PC test, a correct answer is scored 1 point, a wrong answer and a don't know/won't answer answer is scored 0 points, i.e. the maximum you can score on the test is 50 points.
  • There is a time limit of 45 minutes for the PC test; the oral exam takes a maximum of 15 minutes.
  • The scope, depth and level of knowledge required in the tests are based on the material covered in secondary school leaving examinations (for an idea of how the tests are designed, see sample tests from previous entrance examinations).
  • You can find out the success rate for the entrance exams by looking at admission results from previous years.
  • The criterion for demonstrating eligibility to study is the achievement of a score in the admissions procedure that places the applicant in the order of the expected number of students to be admitted so that the total number of students enrolled in the programme is 41.
  • School-leaving certificate/certification of recognition and medical certificate of fitness issued by a medical practitioner on the recommended form (available for download in the e-application form after payment of the fee for the acts associated with the admission procedure) must be submitted in one of the following ways:
    • online (uploaded via a personal folder in the e-application) - only authorized conveyance of the document (provided by Czech POINT branches) - other electronic versions of the document, e.g. a simple scan, will not be accepted
    • by post to the study department (officially certified copy)

  • Proof of hepatitis B vaccination shall be provided to the tutor of practical placements after the start of the course (a copy of the vaccination certificate is sufficient).

The entrance examinations are held in the school building at Tolstého 16, Jihlava, and you must have your ID (ID card or passport) with you.
