What do management simulation games and genealogy have in common? Surprisingly a lot. At least, that is, the guest person on the ninth episode of the Polytechnicast podcast, which is Ing. Lenka Lízalová, Ph.D., a lecturer of economic subjects at the Department of Economic Studies at the University of Applied Sciences, who is also a guarantor of simulation management games, a lecturer of the Genealogy course at the University of the Third Age, a promoter of e-learning and a methodologist of the Moodle tool. The first half of our interview is dedicated to the gamification of teaching, the concept of game-based learning and the simulation games FinGR Play and Unisim, which are aimed at strengthening financial literacy and managerial skills respectively. Among other things, Dr Lízalová will tell you which groups of students are most prone to take risks in games, how family habits are reflected in gaming decisions, and how the Unisim game helped students during the harshest anti-epidemic measures. In the second half of the interview, the focus of our interest shifts to the equally fascinating field of genealogy and family tree building. You will learn, for example, why information technology is behind the huge boom in genealogy in recent years, how it is possible for a Czech to discover Indian genes in his DNA, or how an online community of genealogists can be useful in the search for wanted criminals.
