Polytechnicast #23: MAREK ŠMARDA, BOHUMÍR MACHOVEC AND DAVID HENZL: Combining sport and study is mainly a battle against time

How do university studies and sport go together? At least at the Polytechnic University Jihlava very well. This will be confirmed by the guests of the 23rd episode of the Polytechnicast podcast - the head of the Sports Cabinet of the VŠPJ Bohumír Machovec and first-year students of the Applied Informatics programme Marek Šmarda and David Henzl. In addition to a number of semester sports and sports courses designed not only for students, but also, for example, for employees or students of the University of the Third Age, the VŠPJ also offers significant support to top athletes who want to pursue their sport at the highest possible level and would not like their studies to suffer. This is made possible by the UNIS programme of Victoria, the Higher Education Sports Centre of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Marek Šmarda, the Czech Republic's vice-champion in Taekwondo in 2021, and David Henzl, who plays in the men's softball league for the Hroši Havlíčkův Brod team, are among the several students of the VŠPJ who have been included in this programme. You will learn about their journey to their current sporting success, whether sport and studying is a bigger priority for them, and whether they will ever find time for their hobbies and loved ones in between.
