People with mental illness often face various forms of stigma from society. How can this stigma be removed, or at least alleviated? One way to do this is to involve people recovering from mental illness directly in the education process, through a peer educator. At the Polytechnic University of Jihlava, teaching with peer tutors has been part of the compulsory course Foundations of Psychiatry and Psychopathology taught at the Department of Social Work since 2017. In the future, the base of peer lecturers and the offer of courses not only for students but also for the general public should be expanded, and School of Recovery Jihlava should be established. This is thanks to a new project called "Innovation and development of mental health courses" funded by the European Economic Area and Norway Grants 2014-2021. Who is a peer tutor and what does their role entail? And what exactly do we mean by a recovery school? This is what the guests of the 20th episode of the Polytechnicast podcast will tell you more about - PhDr. Vlasta Řezníková, Ph.D., from the Department of Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences, which is part of the project team, and peer lecturers Mgr. Jitka Boháčková and M.D. Magda Dosbabová, who works at the Centre for the Development of Mental Health Care.
