New Centre for British Language Examinations at the Polytechnic University of Jihlava

On 5 March, the British Council Examination Centre at the Polytechnic University Jihlava was officially opened.

The newly established centre will enable students, especially from secondary schools and universities, but also the general public to take English language exams directly in Jihlava. These are Cambridge ESOL exams, which are among the most respected qualifications for English language students worldwide.

The opening ceremony of the centre was attended by prominent representatives of the city, the region and other important organisations in the region. Nigel Bellingham, Director of the British Council in the Czech Republic, travelled from Prague and commented on the new centre."Our main mission is to provide opportunities for people to work together and learn new skills. We are delighted that those interested in British language qualifications from Jihlava will not have to travel to get them."

The Cambridge ESOL certificate has international validity, which is unlimited in time. It makes it easy for its holders to study or get a job at home or abroad.

"Our centre will organise exams in general English, but there are also plans for exams in a specialist language, such as business or legal English, because we teach specialist language at the school," said Jitka Ryšková from the VŠPJ language department, who is in charge of the centre's activities. "We have also started exam preparation courses."

The centre will continue to organise various events related to making the English language accessible to the public and also develop the English section of the VŠPJ foreign language library, which is also open to the public.

The British Council currently has 11 examination centres across the Czech Republic, making the Jihlava centre 12.

The first "Jihlava" examinations are being organised in June this year. Registrations start from 7 March. More information can be found here.
