The College of Polytechnics Jihlava took part in The Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences again this year. On the occasion of the largest science festival in the Czech Republic, on Wednesday, 6 November 2024, it presented a lecture by Ing. Lenka Kuklišová Pavelková, Ph.D., from the Department of Technical Studies at the VŠPJ, entitled How to know and manage the world.
Visitors of the VŠPJ meeting room had a unique opportunity during the lecture to delve into the introduction of systems theory and control and to learn about a brief history of cybernetics. They learned how to use this theory to describe any part of the world, how to predict its behaviour and how to control it to behave as we want it to. They also had the opportunity to see illustrative examples from everyday life and industry, from temperature control to industrial robots to autonomous vehicles.
The Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences is the largest science festival in the country, featuring lectures, exhibitions, workplace events, documentaries, workshops, science cafes and many other activities across the country and in all scientific disciplines. The festival, whose 4th edition will take place from 4 to 10 November 2024, is aimed both at secondary school students, for whom lectures and excursions are mainly organised in the morning, and at the general public, for whom the programme in the afternoon and evening is aimed.
