VŠPJ has selected a contractor for the construction of university dormitories

The Polytechnic College Jihlava has selected the contractor for the construction of student dormitories on the basis of a tender announced on 15 April 2024. It is the Association Koleje - Podzimek, OHLA ŽS, Metrostav DIZ contractors Podzimek a synové s.r.o., OHLA ŽS, a.s. and Metrostav DIZ s.r.o.

The building, worth approximately CZK 300 million, is to be built on the site of the current brownfield in Fritzova Street in Jihlava on the land of the University of Applied Sciences, within walking distance of the school itself. From the end of 2026, the VŠPJ could offer its students a total of 200 accommodation places.

The architectural study for the construction of the student dormitories of the Polytechnic University Jihlava, whose authors are architects from Studio A 32, was created already in 2021. The building permit for the construction of the dormitories was issued by the building authority in Havlíčkův Brod on 15 May 2023, but several property owners in Fritzova Street in Jihlava appealed against this decision. Due to an objection of bias of the Jihlava municipality, the whole procedure was then transferred to the Central Bohemian Region. The Regional Office of the Central Bohemian Region eventually decided on the validity of the building permit, but the complainants challenged this validity in court at the Regional Court in Hradec Králové, and the validity of the building permit was thus postponed. On Tuesday, 23 July 2024, this action was finally dismissed in its entirety.

The tender for the construction contractor closed on 25 June 2024 and several entities applied. The winning consortium of firms could begin construction during the fall. "We would like to hand over the site as soon as possible. We have lost almost two years of time through unnecessary delays. We have proved that the track project is well prepared and meets all legislative requirements. Our students and the city of Jihlava deserve the development of student life and modern accommodation for students will help this significantly," says the Rector of the VŠPJ Zdeněk Horák.

A total of 60% of the amount budgeted for the construction of the dormitories will be covered by a subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, with additional funds also provided by the Vysočina Region and the Statutory City of Jihlava.
