Construction of student dormitories at the VŠPJ can begin

On Tuesday, 23 July 2024, the Regional Court in Hradec Králové dismissed in its entirety a lawsuit filed against the Regional Authority of the Central Bohemia Region, which challenged the correctness of the procedure for granting a building permit for the student dormitories of the VŠPJ. The winner of the competition for the construction contractor will be announced shortly and the College of Polytechnics Jihlava will be able to start the construction of the dormitories on Fritzova Street soon.

The architectural study for the construction of student dormitories at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, authored by architects from Studio A 32, was created as early as 2021. The building permit for the dormitories was issued by the building authority in Havlíčkův Brod on 15 May 2023, but several property owners in Fritzova Street in Jihlava have appealed against this decision. Due to an objection of bias of the Jihlava municipality, the whole procedure was then transferred to the Central Bohemian Region. The Regional Office of the Central Bohemian Region eventually decided on the validity of the building permit, but the complainants challenged this validity in court at the Regional Court in Hradec Králové, and the validity of the building permit was thus postponed. On Tuesday, 23 July 2024, this action was finally dismissed in its entirety. "For our school, this means we can start building. The dormitory project is well prepared and meets all legislative requirements. It was therefore clear that we had to succeed. Many thanks to all those who contributed to the success of this project," commented VŠPJ Rector Zdeněk Horák on the court's decision.

The winner of the competition for the construction contractor should be announced soon and construction should begin on the land near the school grounds between Fritzova and Tyršova Streets. The new dormitories will have a capacity of about 200 students, which represents about 10% of the total number of students at the school. It should offer accommodation not only for the school's students, but also for expert academic and scientific staff involved in teaching or scientific and research activities. The construction of modern university halls of residence in Jihlava will thus help attract talented students and academic staff to the Vysočina region and contribute to the development of academic life in the regional city and the entire region.
