Great music, beautiful weather, good food and drink, fun activities and countless opportunities to meet and have fun with your friends. All of this was brought by Polytechna Fest, which culminated on Wednesday, 5 June 2024, in the Park of the University of Applied Sciences and Technology, celebrating 20 years since the founding of the University of Applied Sciences and Technology, in conjunction with the Week of Higher Education in Jihlava. The event was supported by the Vysočina Region and the City of Jihlava.
Although the opening minutes of the festival, which started at 4 p.m. in the VŠPJ Park, were still accompanied by drops of rain, the weather fortunately quickly calmed down and rays of sunlight began to penetrate through the clouds. The first visitors of Polytechna Fest could enjoy the performance of the Jihlava band Behind The Beat. The original fusion of jazz, hip hop, soul and other genres based on the African-American tradition brought true summer and festival comfort to the sunny park. After the Behind The Beat concert, the moderator Ondřej Rázl welcomed the Rector of the VŠPJ Zdeněk Horák and the Governor of the Vysočina Region Vítězslav Schrek on stage, who briefly greeted everyone present and wished everyone a pleasant time at the festival.
At 5:30 p.m., a second band, SpazierGang, was already set to take the stage. During their concert, the band bet mainly on cover versions of well-known and lesser-known hits, often in a very original and unconventional way. And their bet was 100% successful, at least judging by the applause of the satisfied audience. After them came Drumband at 18:30. The drumming group of clients and employees of the Day Care Centre Jihlava, p.o., managed to blur the difference between the performers and the audience under the stage and dance and move with their performance inspired by Vikings and Nordic mythology.
After seven o'clock, the main action moved back to the stage and the attention of those in attendance turned to Chief Bromden. With its energetic concert, which was not lacking in great instrumental performances, imaginative melodies and intense loud passages, the band made it clear why it is currently considered one of the greatest hopes of Czech alternative music. The real highlight of the evening for many visitors then came at 21.00, when Ventolin appeared on stage. Already within the first minutes of his concert he managed to live up to his reputation as one of the most energetic live artists on the Czech music scene and grabbed the dancing audience in his hand. In this difficult task he was helped not only by his total symbiosis with digital and analogue synthesizers, but also by incredibly colourful and captivating visuals.
In addition to great music, Polytechna Fest visitors could also enjoy a variety of activities to engage in during their free time. In the festival's relaxation zone they could, for example, compete in a special pub quiz or test their balance while walking on the slackline. At the stand of the Jihlava TyfloCentre, they had the opportunity to enter the world of the blind and try walking with a white cane or the so-called sniffing. The opportunity to learn more about the safe operation of electric scooters, including by riding on various surfaces, was offered by the BESIP stand. Children and adults alike also found something to do at the stand of the Vysočina Region, which attracted passers-by to face painting or a biathlon simulation. And of course there was also the stand of the University of Applied Sciences with a presentation of the school and art activities.
