Public debate focused on the future of the currency in the Czech Republic
The VŠPJ Education Centre hosted a public debate on Tuesday 21 May 2024 entitled The Euro or the Crown? The debate on the possible adoption of the euro in the Czech Republic was attended not only by guests such as former CNB Governor Jiří Rusnok, entrepreneur Pavel Drobil, chief economist of the DRFG Group Martin Slaný and member of the National Budget Council Petr Musil, but also by students and employees of the VŠPJ and representatives of the general public. The event was supported by the Vysočina Region, the Statutory City of Jihlava and the European Danube-Vltava Region.
The debate was opened at 17.00 by the Rector of the University of Applied Sciences Zdeněk Horák, who welcomed all present in a short speech. Then he gave the floor to Ing. Jakub Dostál, Ph.D., from the Department of Economic Studies, who took the role of moderator. During the discussion with the experts, he focused, for example, on the question of whether the Czech Republic is currently prepared for the possible adoption of the euro, or whether this possible adoption could lead to a deepening of inflation. In the second half of the debate, the public was also invited to ask questions.
