The College of Polytechnics of Jihlava participated for the fourth time in the national event Brain Week of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Hana Vláčilová from the Academic Counselling Centre of the University of Applied Sciences entitled Instamozek or why we need a regular digital detox. On Friday, 15 March, the Brain Week at the VŠPJ concluded with a pair of online workshops focused on logic problems led by academics from the Department of Mathematics.
On Monday, March 11, the Brain Week 2024 started at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic with a lecture by Mgr. Hana Vláčilová from the Academic Counselling Centre of the VŠPJ Counselling and Career Centre entitled Instamozek or why we need a regular digital detox. More than 30 people from the staff and students of VŠPJ and the general public learned interesting information about the adverse effects of social networking and mobile phone use on mental and physical health in the school's meeting room. They also received valuable advice on how to mitigate these impacts. After the lecture, visitors also had the unique opportunity to try out various games aimed at training their brain and cognitive skills.
In a playful spirit, the festival continued at the VŠPJ on Friday March 15, with a pair of online workshops focused on logic problems. The first workshop, entitled Einsten's Puzzle, which took place from 10.00 to 10.45 on the MS Teams platform, was followed at 11.00 on the same virtual platform by a second workshop entitled The Claim of Liars and Truth-tellers. The Friday workshops, led by the academic staff of the Department of Mathematics Dr. Stanislava Dvořáková and Dr. Hana Kotoučková involved almost 300 participants, both from the ranks of individuals interested, as well as students and teachers from secondary schools, such as Gymnázium Jihlava, Gymnázium Moravské Budějovice, Secondary Industrial School Třebíč, Management Academy Jihlava, Otokara Březina Primary School Jihlava, Primary School Rýnovice, Jablonec nad Nisou, Matyáš Lerch Gymnasium Brno, Czech Agricultural Academy Humpolec.
Brain Week is a festival of the latest discoveries and trends in brain research and neuroscience, which is part of Brain Awareness Week (BAW) - a global campaign to raise public awareness of the achievements and benefits of brain research. The tradition of Brain Week in the Czech Republic was initiated and founded by Czech neuroscientist Professor Josef Syka in 1998.
