Brain Week at the University of Applied Sciences marked by digital detox and online puzzles

The Polytechnic University of Jihlava will participate for the fourth time in the national event Brain Week of the CAS, which annually presents the latest discoveries and trends in brain research and neuroscience. On Monday March 11, within the Brain Week, a lecture by Mgr. Hana Vláčilová from the Academic Counselling Centre of the University of Applied Sciences entitled Instamozek or why we need a regular digital detox. On Friday, 15 March, the Brain Week at the VŠPJ will conclude with two online workshops focusing on logic problems led by the academic staff of the Department of Mathematics.

Brain Week is a festival of the latest discoveries and trends in brain research and neuroscience, part of Brain Awareness Week (BAW) - a global campaign to raise public awareness of the achievements and benefits of brain research. The tradition of Brain Week in the Czech Republic was initiated and founded by Czech neuroscientist Professor Josef Syka in 1998.

The Polytechnic University of Jihlava will launch the Brain Week 2023 on Monday 11 March with a lecture Instamozek or why we need a regular digital detox. The lecture by Mgr. Hana Vláčilová from the Academic Counselling Centre of the Counselling and Career Centre of the University of Applied Sciences will take place from 14:00 in the meeting room next to the historic auditorium and will present practical demonstrations of brainteasers and techniques for exercising our cognitive functions. In particular, it will focus on how the internet and technology have transformed how we learn and work, and how our way of thinking, relating and behaving has changed. Let's take a mindful and curious look together at how the virtual world works and how it affects our mental and physical health. Together, we can look for ways to navigate the digital world in a healthy and sustainable way." invites to the lecture Mgr. Hana Vláčilová.

On Friday, March 15, Brain Week at VŠPJ will conclude with a pair of online workshops focused on logic problems. The first workshop, called Einsten's Puzzle, will take place from 10.00 to 10.45 on the MS Teams HERE platform. From 11.00 to 11.45, it will be followed by a second workshop entitled Claiming Liars and Truthers. Interested parties can again join via the MS Teams platform HERE. The tasks, which will be conducted by the academic staff of the Department of Mathematics, VŠPJ Ing. Stanislava Dvořáková, Ph.D., and RNDr. Ing. Hana Kotoučková, Ph.D., are designed especially for pupils of 7th to 9th grades of primary schools and secondary school students and are based on logical thinking. No special mathematical knowledge is needed. After the explanation of the possible solution procedure, participants will be given space to solve the puzzles on their own, interact with the lecturer and compete with each other.
