Jan Palach Memorial Day, which will fall on 16 January 2024, was commemorated by the Vice-Rector of the VŠPJ Václav Báča by laying flowers at the memorial plaque of Evžen Plock at Masaryk Square in Jihlava.
In 1969, student Jan Palach rose up in protest against the suppression of freedoms and the passive acceptance of the public after the beginning of the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the army of the Varát Treaty.
Jan Palach inspired many people in Czechoslovakia and abroad with his actions. One of them was Evžen Plocek, a reformist communist and a Catholic, who could not accept the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Vará Treaty and nánám politicalým vým vojem. Therefore, on the Greatý pá tek of April 4, 1969, he protested in the town of Jihlava and became the thirdá so called living march after Jan Palach and Jan Zají.
