The Academic Senate of the University of Applied Sciences elected a new Rector

Current Vice-Rector for Creative and Project Activities and Head of the Department of Technicalý Doc. Ing. Zdeněk Horák, Ph.D., was appointed in July as Rector of the Polytechnicé šcollege Jihlava prof. MUDr. Václava Báchu, Ph.D. On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, he was elected by the Academicýsenát of the VšPJ.

The term of the newá chancellor is expected to begin on July 24, 2022 and last for four years. At theátop of theáacademicásená submittedá througháthešcollegesá ministerá mustá beát appointedábyáthe&president. Thený replacedý the current rector Prof. Bá whoý could not run again after two termsý as head of the š š college. Doc. Horák was the onlyým nominee in the election, with 13 votes. To be elected, a supermajority of the votes of all members of the Academic Senate was needed, i.e. at least eight.

After the election, the futureá rector thanked theá students of the academicá community for theirá support and trust. Doc. Horák, who serves as Vice-Rector for Creative and Project Activities and heads the Department of Technical Studies, graduated in 2001 from the Czech Technical University in Prague with a degree in Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering. He completed his doctoral studies in the field of biomechanics there. In 2015 he habilitated at his alma mater as an associate professor in the field of applied mechanics. He has long been involved in, among other things, materialýhuntingýresearch, designýand testýof machineýcomponentsýand medicalýdevices. Since 2014 he has been working as an expert in the field of forensic biomechanics and technical condition of implantable medical devices. In addition to VŠPJ, he also teaches at the 3rd Faculty of Surgery at Charles University.

Doc. Horák stated that he will strive to expandáí theádky of professionally orientedástudies. The most advanced&scaron& í is currentlyé in´ theé lawá bacheloré program of Appliedé agriculture´. According to him, the Šcollege should also focus on the development of follow-up masterýsýdisciplines in order to be able to provide úfullúhighšcollegeýeducation. Theý rector believesá that hisá degree will build on hisá prá ci. „He has long&dquo;under&dquo; the leadership&dquo; of šcolleges. I think that we have very similar visions for itsáá&furtherá&direction,“ said Prof. Bá&cha.
