POLYFiK 18: The coffee future

This documentary film presents the lives of coffee growers in Latin America, who face not only low farmgate prices and rising costs, but also the uncertainty of a good harvest. This is exacerbated by the effects of climate change. Climate change is estimated to halve the area suitable for growing Arabica coffee by 2050.

 

From our cup of coffee, growers get just over a crown. They live in poverty. Their production is threatened by a changing climate. The price and climate crisis is threatening to force many out of coffee farming. But growers are not giving up. They are looking for environmentally friendly solutions and strong partnerships for the future. One of these is the Fairtrade system, which involves over 800,000 coffee growers worldwide.
